What involvement does the Church have with the Young People?

Tue 22 Jan 2013

Hi, my name is Pippa.

I work for the churches of the Bovey Valley Mission Community as a Youth Outreach Worker, alongside Robin Smith the Youth Pastor. We have lots of involvement with young people inside and outside the church.

We've just started a youth club at Lustleigh Lighthouse, 6:30pm - 8:00pm on Friday evenings, with pool, table tennis, refreshments, games and a 10minute talk time, for young people of all ages.  Come along and meet us!

Robin and I also volunteer at the Youth Cafe in Bovey.  It's a great atmosphere providing young people with a place to hang out, listen to music, use the internet, play games, cook and much more. We are delighted to support the staff here who give their time and energy to care and create a safe environment for youth.

I'm hoping to volunteer at the secular youth club in Moretonhampstead, to support the existing staff and to get to know the young people within that area.

We support local Primary schools and lead assemblies, and hope to be able to go into local Secondary schools and see how we can support them.

In Illsington we're planning a monthly session for children and families on a Sunday, which will involve refreshments, crafts, dramas, and lots more.

In Bovey Tracey Robin Smith the Youth Pastor leads a Youth group for 11-14yr olds on Sunday evenings from 6:45pm - 8:15 in the church room, straight after the 5pm service at PPT.  Robin provides games, tuck shop, table tennis, pool/snooker, free food, a talk and lots more with a team of enthusiastic volunteers.

From 13th January we are running the Youth Alpha Course,  for young people aged 11-17. It’s chance to ask any question about Christianity (no question is 'silly') - with free food, and get to know new people.  Come along, you have nothing to lose but everything to gain! (free food!!!)

Robin also leads a older group for 14-18yr olds on Wednesday evenings from 7pm - 9pm - a time to be able to socialise, learn and share together.

We also have a young adults (18-30's) gathering every Tuesday evening in different people’s homes.

We also mentor young people to help support them in their faith and day to day lives.

It's going to be exciting to see how things develop, we look forward to getting to know more young people in our community.
