The Jeffery's guide to 'Grow Your Own'

In these days of trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, being kind to the environment and watching our spending, why not try a little ‘grow your own' in your garden or outside your home in containers/hanging baskets?

Jeffery's have some hints and tips that will hopefully help you along the way:

  • Try a garden pot or container filled with tomatoes, salad leaves, aubergines, spinach, strawberries, blueberries or potatoes. You can even move it around to suit the weather!
  • Sow seeds into spaces in your garden, for example, lettuces can grow happily between the plants and flowers. Carrots, parsnips, peas, beans, cabbages and squash are also all easy to ‘sow and grow'.
  • Buy some grow bags for your patio or even vegetable planters - just add the compost, seeds or plants and you are in business.
  • A good way to loosen up your soil is to plant potatoes. In only 12 to 14 weeks you will have completed the growing cycle and have a good area for re-planting as well as your staple diet.
  • Herbs are a favourite, quick to prepare and plant plus available ‘on demand' for cooking, medicinal uses or for ornamental purposes. From a small window sill pot through container growing to planted in the garden, they can provide display and fragrance all year round.
  • Why not try planting your hanging baskets with cherry tomatoes. They will provide not only a juicy crop but also added colour and aroma.

This is just a taster. The choice out there is immense and, once started, it is fun and healthy to get involved.

Jeffery's can offer advice and information plus supply a wide variety of equipment, containers, seeds, plants, composts and feeds to satisfy your gardening needs.
