Bovey Tracey Tourist Information Centre

Most local people will be familiar with the Bovey Tracey Tourist Information Centre situated in Station Road car park, but have you visited it?

You will have noticed that it is open in the winter months on a limited basis (Fridays and Saturdays) and for the rest of the year (April through to October) on a daily basis. As you dash past on your way to the shops next time you park in Station Road car Park take the time to pop in to the centre.

You will find a Centre staffed by friendly, local volunteers who are there because they want to share their own knowledge of Bovey Tracey and the surrounding area and assist you with any questions you might have or to point you in the direction of forthcoming local activities. The Centre holds a surprising amount of information about Local Businesses, Local attractions and Local Events as well as selling maps and books about the area. We are open over the winter so that we can support Bovey Tracey so please use us as a source of information!

From Easter though to October we get many more visitors and these are mostly Tourists. In 2009 the centre had a pretty busy year recording over 17,000 visitors between April and the end of October. Many of these visitors will benefit businesses in Bovey Tracey and for instance we help them find places to stay or places to eat - establishments highlighted on a display board in the Centre which lists local accommodation.

A relatively recent innovation was a free town map which shows Bovey and the surrounding area and is sponsored by local businesses and this serves three purposes to indicate where points of interest are as well as both advertising local Bovey businesses but also raising some revenue from the ads to support the running costs of the Information Centre- we pay rates too!

The information centre aims to do three things:

Provide local information to local people. We would like to provide a better service so a plea to local groups- keep us informed of any events and keep us supplied with your leaflets.

Support local Businesses. Increasingly we would like to help local businesses by signposting Local services to Local people and Tourists so a plea to local businesses - support us!

Provide Information to Tourists. We will continue to provide a service that is appreciated by the flow of tourists during the year-a flow which benefits local businesses.
