Reflections Mirror Time at the Devon Guild
Thu 28 Apr 2011
Torquay
artist, Deborah Treliving, is exhibiting exciting new work at the Devon Guild
of Craftsmen.
The
exhibition, ‘Reflections Mirror Time’ is the culmination of a two year artistic
dialogue between, Deborah Treliving, member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen,
and award winning poet, Graham Burchell. The dialogue began at an exhibition in
Torre Abbey with the bones of a poem full of youthful memories and summer
nights, written in response to Deborah’s painting, ‘Midnight Reflections’.
Since then the torch has been passed back and forth, with words inspiring
colour and spatial shifts, and these in turn firing new ideas for writing.
Deborah’s
paintings and original prints are displayed with Graham’s poems in the
Riverside Gallery, which glows with vibrant colour, texture and words. In addition to this ekphrastic
dialogue the exhibition shows how printmaking and in particular the
construction of Deborah’s collagraph and carborundum plates has been
fundamental to a new direction in her painting.
Emma Mahanay, Exhibitions Officer , the Devon Guild of Craftsmen,
writes: “I just wanted to pass on how
beautiful your work looks in the Riverside Gallery. I went down this morning
and, particularly in the morning light
the work by the window looked stunning. “
Erica Steer, Director
of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen
said she
was “blown away I was by the quality of the work and how it has been displayed
in the gallery space. It has more than fulfilled my vision for creating a
gallery out of the end room of the shop and I am sure it is offering an
enhanced experience for all our visitors. “
In
conjunction with the exhibition the artists will be talking about their
collaborative project on Wednesday 30 March at 6.30 at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
Graham
will also be running a full day Moor Poets’ workshop ‘Poetry from Art’ at the
Phoenix Hall, Bovey Tracey, TQ13 9FF on Saturday 9 April 10am – 4pm.
