Torbay Celebrates Successful Year for Visual Arts with Final Christmas Showcase

Torbay is set to once again affirm its significance as a flourishing destination for arts and culture as it hosts its fifth large scale showcase of visual arts for 2018. The Artizan Winter Open builds on the successful Summer show of the same model which brought together over 60 local artists as well as submissions from acclaimed national and international creatives in July this year and saw strong sales.

"We felt privileged to be able to bring a vibrant celebration of our artistic community to the high street over the summer," says Julie Brandon, owner of Artizan Gallery. "The opportunity to round off the year with another showcase of our local talent and reflect on what's been an incredible year for Torbay in arts and culture more broadly, is unbelievable."

The two open exhibitions organised by the family-run Artizan Gallery sits alongside substantial commitments to visual arts from other Torbay institutions. Torre Abbey curated two extensive open exhibitions which brought together local art societies under one roof for the first time and helped promote the bay as an enticing destination for this year's Devon Open Studios event. Additionally, Torquay Boys Grammar School hosted the Torbay Art Show, the bays first ever professional art fair which welcomed high profile artists from across Devon.

"The Artizan Winter Open will conclude a year that has been a real turning point for Torbay," says Julie. "And we hope that this strong position will be maintained in the year ahead."

The Artizan Winter Open will launch on November 20 and run until December 24 at their pop-up venue in Unit 5 on the lower level of Fleet Walk and will include submissions from their Geopark Ambassador Artists. A donation from all sales will go to the important work done by the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark. For more information, visit
