Your view: Political Correctness

Mon 6 Sep 2010

I have been following your articles on Political Correctness and feel that the subject has not been debated in effect with real life and as a resident of this town feel it's worth the discussion. We all know Political Correctness came about to protect the weak and venerable and we know at times it has been taken to the extreme, but lets look within our own town shall we.

We have in the past few years gained ‘Fair Trade' status which I whole heartily agree with. This protects workers who where involves with the product labelled. But what about the Local workers of the community. To survive the recession the Government want people to retire later, but will out local employers keep on someone after 65? The Government want to cut Benefits for people with both mental/emotional & physical disabilities, but will the local employers or our community give a job to those individuals?

Whilst the larger companies like Trago Mills and Tesco promote ‘Equal Opportunities' will the smaller Business be so politically correct? Where is their ‘Equal Opportunity' displayed? What about the weak, venerable of just special needs in our own community?
