If you care for someone, who cares for you?

Fri 17 Sep 2010

There are plenty of people in our community who devote time to caring for someone else. This may be as simple as doing the shopping or collecting prescriptions, or may involve assisting with bathing, feeding and helping dress. If you are doing this, for a family member, friend or anyone else, you are a carer. You deserve recognition and support, and there is an ongoing local project which may be able to help you.

The Riverside Surgery, Bovey Tracey, and Tower House Surgery, Chudleigh, are participating in a countywide project to improve the support and recognition provided to unpaid carers. Free health and wellbeing checks are available which look at the carers' physical, mental and emotional health. Carers, between the ages of 40-74, can also choose to receive a vascular check to predict their risk of developing problems such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes where these conditions have not previously been diagnosed. Carers can then be supported to access any treatment or referrals they may need in response to the health checks. The surgeries are also supporting carers by hosting regular outreach clinics with a Services Support worker from Devon Carers Link.

If you would like to access any of the services, or are a carer and would like some more information on how we can support you, please contact either the Riverside Surgery on 01626 832666 or Tower House Surgery on 01626 852379.
