Bovey Cricket Club returns to action

The club was formed in 1850, and is still going strong 164 years later. The first team now play in the premier league of Devon. With 10 teams in the table that means our first team is playing at home on Saturday 9 times in the season. The other 9 days in the summer season are taken by our second team. Who, like the firsts play in second eleven premier league.

So from the start of May until the end of august there is good cricket to watch at Bovey Recreation Ground. This year our first team has 3 Devon players. Also playing is Zimbabwe's under 19 captain and a fast bowler from South Africa. The second team is where we hope to bring on younger players. As there is no more room to play another team our 3rd and 4th team play outside of Bovey, but are still part of the club.

Our ladies this year are forming a joint team with Torquay. Training with all players is done at home on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. With Fridays being for all the colts, who train and then have sausage and chips while mum and dad enjoy an end of the week drink.

We are always looking for new players to join. If playing is not your thing why not join as a social member or come along to watch. Our ladies will be happy to serve you tea, or the bar is open for a cool beer.
