Lockdown – What we did!

Mon 1 Feb 2021

In November 2004 our 17-year-old son Peter died as a car passenger in a tragic road accident. He loved to walk and go exploring around the lances and footpaths of his home town of Bovey Tracey accompanied by his mates.

We have always said we would like to write a book of walks in his memory and spring 2020 during lockdown seemed the ideal time.  As we were only able to exercise from our home we took to walking in different directions from our house.  It became a challenge to try different circular routes each day using Explorer 110 Dartmoor Outdoor Leisure 28 O.S. maps.  What a privilege to live in such a beautiful and diverse area, with the rivers, woodland and farmland, old drovers tracks and country lanes.

The booklet – “Ten Circular Walks around Bovey Tracey” contains photographs, maps and directions (all tried and tested!) for walks from 3.5 – 10 miles all around the town.

Money from the sale of the booklet will be donated to Brake – a charity dedicated to preventing these road deaths and injuries from happening and also providing support for people who have been bereaved or injured following road crashes.
