BOVEY TRACEY RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

Mon 14 Jun 2021

As this article is being prepared a number of things relating to the Covid epidemic seem to be improving. Many local residents have now received at least one vaccination and it will be good news for us when we can all resume our lives in a similar way to that before the onset of the epidemic, including meeting together again in the many excellent local clubs and societies.

Les Calder, one of our Committee and Lead Co-ordinator of Neighbourhood Watch for Bovey Tracey, has received the recommended actions listed below relating to the reduction of the increasing thefts of dogs during the current ‘lockdown’. To keep your dog safe whilst outside your home, please consider the following:

1. Do not put your dog’s name on its tag as someone attempting to steal it may try to attract it by using its name.

2. If possible do not leave your dog alone outside a shop or in a car.

3. Beware of strangers admiring your dog for long periods.

4. Many dogs are now sold on-line which in some cases has resulted in inflated prices and fraudulent activities.

What follows is some more news from our local Council:

Covid Hardship Fund: Dartmoor Community Kitchen Food Bank continue to support a large number of families in our town and surrounding area by providing food boxes to those in food shortage. If you need help or if you would like to offer support by volunteering or donations please get in touch via their new Facebook, tel. 01626 836899, (when allowed) pop into 45 Fore Street or take you donations into the Spar or Tesco on Fore Street. The Food Bank is looking after families over the school Easter holidays and the Town Council is providing Easter Eggs for children of those families but the Food Bank always needs food donations so that they can respond to requests within 24 hours. Thank you to everyone who helps already.

Abbey Road Closure: The Abbey Road closure pilot has been manned by a small number of volunteers to ensure the safety of school children and parents and a longer term approach is to be considered. Thank you to the community volunteers who have worked during the cold and wet winter months and amid the Covid restrictions.
