Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society Summer Show - Aug 16th

Thu 5 Jun 2014

Now that summer is here, Bovey residents and many from further afield are looking forward to the Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society’s Summer Show, being held in Parke View Meadow (opposite the Riverside Inn) on Saturday August 16th. Limited parking is available in the show field, with allocated disabled spaces and space for cycles. There is plenty of other parking, in Station Road car park near the tourist office and in Le Molay Littry Way, next to the Methodist Church. Both car parks are a short walk from Parke View Meadow.

Gates open at 1.30 p.m. and the marquee will open at 2.00 after a welcome from the town Mayor.

As always, there will be something to keep everyone happy. Pride of place, of course, goes to the wonderful display of show entries in the main marquee. Expect exquisite flower arrangements, perfect fruit and vegetables, beautiful flowers, delicious-looking food, impressive handicrafts and artistic photographs. There will be special classes for children, and the children of Bovey Tracey Primary School will be displaying their artwork.

When you or the family are feeling a bit tired, hungry or thirsty you can find rest and refreshment in the tea tent at the end of the main marquee or at one of the food or drink stalls. To keep you occupied, there will be a dog agility demonstration (back by popular demand), a birds of prey display by the Hawk and Owl Sanctuary, and the Torquay Brass Band. Nationally-known local potter Jeremy Leach will demonstrate his skills and will be happy to share his experience with interested visitors. There will be plant stalls, whether you are looking for a plant for a special position in your garden, or just something to help you fill these annoying spaces which seem to appear in borders in mid-summer. There will also be lots of other stalls for you to browse. Needless to say, there will be ice cream!

Show Schedules and Entry Forms (price £1.50) will be available from ‘The Cottage Tea Shop and ‘Simply Flowers’ in Fore Street, and Brimley Post Office, also from the Show Secretary, Marion Edwards, on 832811, and Show Manager, John Tibbs, on 832881. Entries must be received, please, by noon on Wednesday 13th August.

The Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society celebrated the 150th anniversary of the first show last year. Please help us to continue this wonderful tradition by coming along and enjoying the Show. We look forward to welcoming you.
