Devon Baroque Coming to Bovey

Mon 3 May 2010

At last Devon Baroque is coming to Bovey Tracey. Started ten years ago, Devon Baroque, directed by the charismatic and world-renowned Margaret Faultless, is the principal orchestra in the South West specialising in the music of the Baroque period. It is very proud to be playing in Bovey Tracey as part of the Charter Celebrations in June. Since its formation, it has given almost 100 performances, concerts, operas, workshops, recitals, work in schools, with regular appearances at Dartington, including two exceptionally successful ‘Experience' weekends featuring the music of Vivaldi and Handel.

The title for the concert in June is "Baroque Masters" and a highlight of the programme will be works by Vivaldi and Telemann for recorder and orchestra performed by James Risdon. James was born and grew up in Bovey and is now Music Officer at the RNIB.

The orchestra has built up an enthusiastic following of all age groups and has a reputation for polished and exuberant performances. The Baroque period produced fabulous music, including the prolific compositions of Vivaldi and Telemann, two giants of the time, both represented in this concert. The event promises that the past will be brought to life by players who are passionate about the music and about sharing the joy that the music generates.
