Celebrations Planned for 100 Years of Schooling at Bovey Tracey Primary

Tue 3 May 2011

Bovey Tracey Primary School is preparing a feast of celebrations and events to commemorate its Centenary this year.

The school first opened its doors on 2nd June 1911 and since then has been educating generations of children from the town and surrounding area.

On the 25th and 26th of May, tours of the school will be undertaken, with displays showing the history and many changes that have taken place to the school during this period.  In addition, visitors will be treated to musical and drama performances by the pupils. A quiz evening open to the general public run by the school association will also take place on the evening of the 26th.

The grand finale of the proceedings will be held on the 27th of May with an “It’s A Knockout” sports fun day for members of the school, followed by a cĂ©ilidh which will be open to the community with tickets being sold in advance, details of which will  follow nearer the time

If you have any memories or photos from your own time spent at Bovey Tracey Primary School in ‘days gone by’, which you would be willing to share, please get in touch by e-mailing centenary@bovey-tracey-primary.devon.sch.uk

Lets get you all started with this one&

When the old swimming pool was there a friend of mine thought it would be a brilliant idea to put armbands on his feet, and attempt to walk on water. So, encouraged by his class mates he stepped into the deep end to test his theory. Immediately flipping upside down with feet on the surface, and body under water, a very panicked teacher (who had no idea what he was attempting) had to jump in and rescue him – all much to the amusement of the watching class. It was only later after getting an almighty telling off he realised just how badly flawed this theory was!
