Charity Plant Sale in aid of Freedom from Torture
Tue 3 May 2011
SATURDAY
21st MAY from 9.30 am to 2.00 pm at the Bovey Tracey Methodist Church
Hall. Coffee, tea and cake and soup
lunch available. We also plan to show a video/DVD about the charity's
therapeutic gardening and allotment work.
The
Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, established by Helen
Bamber 25years ago, officially changed its name on 15th March to FREEDOM FROM
TORTURE. This is after much consultation with supporters and clients.
The
charity is non-political and supports and treats survivors of torture from
conflicts and oppressive regimes all over the world. Some of this care and
therapy is achieved via tending plants, creating a garden and helping run an
allotment. I know from visiting the London base and personal contact with
survivors how much it is helpful to them to have support from the local groups
all across the country. Given all we have heard about the uprisings and
struggles recently their work is more than ever relevant. The Devon and Cornwall
groups were established just two years
ago and new members are always welcome. Information will be available about the
charity on the day.
Bedding
plants, vegetables, herbaceous plants, shrubs will be on sale.
Plants
you would like to donate are also welcome and if you think you can offer some
please contact me.
